ABOUT US

Olivet United Methodist Church mission as a church serving its community is to become a help center committed to the healing of God’s people mentally, emotionally, physically but most of all spiritually.  A church committed to the surrendering of ourselves to becoming the instruments of faith, used by God, to bring about transformation and change to our family, friends and community, that is in need of a new hope only found in the inclusion of Jesus Christ.  For without Christ we are nothing, but with Christ we are more than conquerors.  Conquerors standing strong in the belief that we can do, must do, and will be found doing all things through Christ that strengthens us.  If my brother hungers, I hunger; If my brother thirsts, I thirst.; If my brother ever feels abandonment, a sense of loneliness or discouraged, it is up to us to love, embrace and encourage, as Christ himself has loved us and encouraged us and saved us.  Olivet UMC, a lighthouse of love, committed with the strength of Jesus Christ to dispel the darkness, to break the chains, and bind that which is not like our God.  We are committed to loving our neighbors and God as ourselves, with all of our heart, strength, mind body and soul.  This is our mission and we are committed.

Olivet remains to be a traditional Church with the freedom and flexibility for ministering church family. The church located at 147 South Keeler, and has been there for 110 years, it had evolved along with the city and its community because of the evolution our congregation not only is a product of its community but a product of changing times of our nation. The community continue to attend service, something that we very proud of.

The Congregation’s goals remain as in the past and this is to help edify the community around it.  The congregation is motivated by mission and outreach.  Olivet shines brighter and is brought alive by its actions and maneuvers in helping its community. The congregation realized the problems and tries to adjust and manifest the needs of the Austin community.  We pray that God will continue to Bless us to be able to reach out and help our community.  The fact the community is attending our service, make us feel we are doing something correct in this community.

We continue to be a small congregation, “Thanks be to God” that with aid of our Sister congregations to do our food drives, clothing drives, school supplies, monthly breakfast to the community and warming ministry, which remain to be our core ministries.

Over the years our core values continue to remain the same, to integrate the teaching of Christ, the example of the First Church of Christ.  Along with the leading of the Holy Spirit to enlarge God’s territory amongst us, thru love, understanding of God and his people.
